China bans power banks without 3C certification on domestic flights

The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) issued an emergency notice:  

*Starting June 28, passengers will be prohibited from bringing power banks onto domestic flights in China if they lack a valid 3C (China Compulsory Certification) mark, have unclear, tampered, or missing 3C labels, or belong to recalled models or production batches.  

This ban comes in response to a surge in safety incidents. Between April and June alone, multiple brands recalled large quantities of power banks due to safety risks:

*On April 30, Baseus Technology recalled 38,814 units of its BS-30KP365 model manufactured between January 2020 and March 2023. Affected units have serial numbers ending in the letter or digit “D.”  

*On June 12, Anker Innovations recalled 1.14 million units of its PowerCore 10000 (Model A1263) in the U.S. and about 712,964 units in China due to unauthorized changes to battery insulation materials. At least 19 fire or explosion incidents were reported. 

*On June 16, Romoss recalled 491,745 units of its PAC20 series, manufactured between June 2023 and July 2024, over risks of overheating and rupture.  

In addition, 3C certifications of several popular brands such as Romoss, Anker, Xiaomi, Baseus, and UGREEN have been suspended, with most changes occurring since early June.  

Over 2 million units have been recalled globally, yet many non-compliant products remain in circulation, posing significant safety risks. The root causes: battery cell quality defects and invalidated certifications.  

According to the State Administration for Market Regulation, multiple battery cell suppliers and power bank manufacturers have had their 3C certifications revoked or suspended.  

Not sure if your power bank is flight-safe? Check these three things before boarding:

*3C certification: Look for a “CCC” mark on the product or packaging. Scan the QR code to verify on the official certification website.  

*Recalled status: Search for your model on the national recall platform or the brand’s official website.  

*Label clarity: Faded, missing, or fake stickers are all considered non-compliant.
